PSG Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
